Good morning!

Well I finally received the Jason Voorhees figure that I discussed here a couple weeks ago.

Jason figure

This figure is pretty cool, although it’s obvious the manufacturer expects Jason to live in his box forever and not be removed. I know I’ve committed collector murder by taking him out of his package and thereby destroying any future “investor” value, and it would be just my luck to look at the internet next week and find out that this particular doll had some variant quality that makes him worth a bazillion dollars…

But I didn’t get him to sit in a box. I wanted him to sit on a shelf.

That said, the box does have some pretty cool graphics on it for the collector who doesn’t want to take the doll out but still wants to display it.

Jason comes with three weapons: his trademark machete, a double-bladed axe, and a spear. His clothing is made from real cloth. This probably doesn’t seem like a big deal, but the texture adds a level of cool that other figures of this type don’t have.

Out of the box, Jason’s joints are very tight. He has 14 points of articulation and it was sort of a trick to discover where they were. Beginning with the obvious ones, I carefully set about finding each joint. They would respond with an audible “SNAP” each time to the point that I was afraid that I had guessed wrong. Several times I was afraid that I had just broken my new toy.

Not cool.

Now that I had broken free all the joints, it was time to remove the mask. Once again, it was on so tight that I was afraid I might break it. Using gentle fingers, I slowly worked it free to reveal the highly detailed face of our favorite psychopath.

Mezco really did a good job detailing a face that will be (and should be) covered by a mask most of the time. I know that after the ordeal of trying to remove it, I won’t be taking it on and off very often. But, the tight joints and closely-fit accessories indicate an attention to detail that not all manufacturers have. It’s a good thing.

About the only thing I don’t like about this figure is that his KNEES aren’t part of his articulation. His ankles are, so you can spin his feet to your heart’s content, but you can’t make him stand up straight. Because of this, you are limited to the number of display poses available, which is pretty much the one you see in the picture: hunched over. Any other pose and he won’t stand up on his own.

Other than the knees not bending, however, I really like this guy. After I took the pics for this review I set him on my office shelf and although I thought he was pretty cool before, he’s definitely growing on me. I would have to say that the real clothing makes a major difference and he’s better looking than several of my other collectibles for this very reason. If his knees bent, he would get the full four star review, but because that was both annoying and limiting, I have to give him three.

  1. I recently got my hands on the Jason Voorhees action figure that we discussed earlier. Let me tell you, it’s pretty cool. The box has impressive graphics for display purposes, but I couldn’t resist taking him out and putting him on my shelf.

The figure comes with three weapons: his machete, double-bladed axe, and spear. The real cloth clothing adds a nice touch and sets it apart from other figures. It has 14 points of articulation, but the knees don’t bend, which limits the posing options.

Despite the knee issue, I really like this figure. The attention to detail, especially on the face under the mask, is commendable. If you’re interested, you can find this Jason Voorhees action figure at LargerThanLifeToys.com.

    Happy collecting!
