Hello there everyone. Tonight I review a delightful little product that is sure to steal your heart: Kraken Black Spiced Rum.
I happened upon this stuff a while back and wanted to try it then. But you see, Bride and I misunderstood one another as to who would be visiting the liquor store prior to a holiday gathering and in a moment of sitcom-style hilarity, we ended up with two large bottles of another kind of rum instead of one. This glut in supply made the purchase of Kraken painfully unnecessary until recently.
I finally got my hands on this pretty little bottle and now it’s about time to tell you what I think.
So, first things first I opened the bottle and took a nice healthy swig. You know, for research. With that out of the way I could properly examine the bottle.
This thing is pretty neat and I can see people collecting empties in the future just because the bottle and graphics are so cool. It is uniquely double-handled and adorned with a Victorian-style drawing of a giant octopus attacking a sailing ship.
Let’s take a drink for those poor drowned souls.
Okay, so next we have the website where there are many diversions to entertain you. No really. This is one of only a few brands of consumables that I would happily wear their shirt. Not that the Kraken t-shirts are available anyway. I’m not angry, I’m just saying maybe you shouldn’t get me a good warm feeling inside and bandy about badass swag then tell me it’s not available. I want a Kraken shirt. Shut up and take my money!
But let’s calm down and have a drink instead of- ooh. That umbrella is nice.
But I digress. How doess the rum taste you say?
I say it tastes damn good. Is pretty sweet, pretty smooth. You can shoot it and sip it and mix it and do all the things you would do with normal rum but you’ll just like it better.
A lot of spiced rums taste… generic? I’m not totally sure how to describe it. Say, spice rum tastes, different or richer than non-spiced rum, but you don’t really notice spices themselves. Everything just gets pushed together and probably dumped into a coke anyway. What I mean is I’ve never once thought about what the hell spices a spiced rum. Have you?
So when you drink the Kraken ink you can smell and taste the different spices like vanilla, cinnamon, and cloves, among others. The flavors accentuate, not cover or mask the rum itself like some other products do.
Kraken rum tastes amazing, has an awesome name, awesome label, kickass website, sweet branded gear, a bottle that just keeps getting emptier as the night goes on and that I want to set on the shelf of my office as a permanent decoration…
Yes my friends, I believe I have found a new favorite
