Good afternoon! Today I’m going to show you something you can do with a plain, old gourd. I’ll admit I didn’t make this one; I bought it last year at the Scarecrow Festival. But these little guys are easily Bride’s and my favorite of our Halloween decorations, even of the ones I’ve made, so I thought I’d show them off!
Supplies:
- Pencil
- X-acto hobby knife
- Paint (White/Cream & Orange)
- Light socket and bulb (or LED candle)
- Dry gourd
Draw the faces of the ghost and Jack O’ Lantern onto the gourd. The bottom of the ghost’s sheet is where the pieces separate, so make sure it droops properly:
If I were making this, I would start by cutting the ghost from the pumpkin so that I had access to the inside of the gourd while I carved their faces.
Make sure your X-acto blade is new and very sharp for this kind of detail. When you are satisfied with your carvings, cut a hole in the back of the gourd for access to the light bulb. Then paint your characters. When they are dry, insert the light, flip the switch, and enjoy your marvelous creation!
