Scarydad News and Updates

Hello faithful Minions.

It seems like it’s been a while since we talked. I’ll admit that the nightly bedtime stories have been a bit lacking of late and there is no good excuse for it. Actually, there’s lots of good excuses, but no entertaining ones. Like I haven’t been held hostage by a strange race of mutant squid people or anything. Although that would be awesome and if it ever does happen I’ll be sure to snap a pic for you.

In the meantime, let me fill you in a bit on what’s been going on here at Castle Scarydad.

Spawn of Scarydad recently graduated to her big girl bed. She thought it was a really good idea until it got dark, then she changed her mind. Her wails occasionally threaten to wake the dead, meaning that those of us that are only mostly dead are dead tired.

When I haven’t been doing something else I’ve been reading The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. So far, so good. Very colorful language that immerses you into the story. Although I’m not finished yet, unless there’s something really stupid to ruin it in the third act, I think it’s probably safe to recommend this book to anyone who likes magic.

The ultimate way to cook fish is like this: In a skillet, heat up some sesame oil. Place the fish skin down into the oil. Add a bit of garlic salt and pepper and allow to cook until the fish is white. Serve with your favorite sides. It’s that easy, and it tastes better than anything you’ll get in a restaurant. You’re welcome.

I got Trick r’ Treat at Half Price Books for $4.00 and that’s pretty cool.

Tiny Dancer is pretty easy to play on the guitar but it’s hard to remember all the words.

And I think that’s about all I have for tonight.

Now where’d I put that…

Oh. Hello. Sorry, I didn’t see you there.

I know, I know. I’m supposed to be telling you entertaining stories and showing you how to do things. But I can explain.

See, I’m in the middle of doing lots of really neat things, but unfortunately, as my ambition has grown, so has the amount of time needed to complete the projects.

I swear to you that I have been out in the lab almost every night doing really cool things just for you. It’s just that there isn’t much to tell. Sometimes you have to let the corpse ripen a bit before you can move on with the project and watching decay is little more interesting than watching paint dry.

I’ll be out in force soon, though. Soon enough it’ll be too damn hot to go outside anyway.

That’s it for today. Tune in tomorrow to find out…

Playing outside

sun

A few days ago I was tricked into stepping into daylight and to my great surprise, I did not explode into a ball of flame! It was about then that I decided that it’s been way too long since I actually “played” outside. I’m always doing things- a new project or tending the garden or some chore or tweak or cleanup job… so that all the playing gets done by other people and I wake up Monday morning sore and tired.

Well I finally decided to see what it was like to engage in a frivolous, unproductive activity just for the hell of it and it was awesome. Bride and Spawn and I kicked a ball back and forth with  for a good part of the evening. Earlier in the day we tossed a Frisbee around, the little one did the best she could but just couldn’t get it to fly.

In a visit to my parents’ house last week I found my old skateboard. And by old I mean ancient! It’s a vintage 1985 Nash- big fat fish-tail board that weighs 15 pounds. I’ve had the thing since I was 10. What a sweet old board!

Anyway, just wanted to share that with you and to suggest that if you get a chance, go play outside for a while. It’s very therapeutic.

Well that didn’t go as planned…

Good evening everyone. I must apologize for my lack of awesome project content over the past couple of weeks. I’ve been somewhat distracted with things that are not altogether fun to discuss. So I went out to the lab tonight with every intent of producing something of such grandeur that it would make up it.

And I totally failed.

All the screw ups are not worth mentioning individually except to say that on an average night I rarely encounter a single snag, much less several.

It’s a strange evening indeed when your old pal Scarydad comes inside early. It was that rough.

Oh well.
