This weekend I was feeling a bit saucy so I broke down and bought a six-pack of Rogue Dead Guy Ale. Dead Guy is pretty expensive- $11 for a sixer, but it’s very nice on occasion.
I’ll be the first to admit, my favorite thing about this beer is the name and the label on the bottle. For a guy who enjoys the macabre, the beer-drinking skeleton is right up my alley.
The fact that Dead Guy Ale is a full-bodied and delicious and makes my face happy is also good.
This is a pretty strong beer that is very easy to drink. After a bottle or two, you definitely feel it, which almost justifies the price. After a third, the price is no longer a concern and you’re doing just fine.
I think it’s still a little hot to truly enjoy such a thick and dark beer. But I imagine it will be perfect for when I’m sitting around a backyard fire pit in autumn, taking in the scent of wood smoke and burning leaves, maybe enjoying a pipe or a cigar.
Dead Guy is made in Newport, Oregon by Rogue Brewers. They have a nifty website where you can learn more about their beers and even order some cool Dead Guy stuff.
It’s good stuff and I’ve actually seen it on tap in a few of the bars we play at. Good option over shiner/ziegenbock.
