Hello there my Minions!!! I know it’s been a few days since my last post and last week’s posts were half-assed at best. I know this, and it’s not because I don’t love you. It’s because for several days there I was sicker than pickled dog turds and the effort involved in doing anything but praying for death was too much for me to handle. Then when I did feel better I didn’t have much to talk about because I didn’t have anything I had been working on like I normally do. Then there was trying to catch up on normal day-to-day life and work stuff, so I was a bit out of the loop last week. It’s okay though because I have already forgiven myself.

So, what are we working on now?  I’m glad you asked. You see, I’ve wanted to grow a backyard garden for as long as I can remember. I love the smell of soft, moist earth as well as the flavor of homegrown vegetables and herbs. Well, this past weekend I enlisted the help of a friend and we got two large garden beds built. And because I love you so much, I took occasional breaks to snap pictures so I could share the project.

What you are seeing above and below is the area of the yard where I would like to have garden beds and the weird raised wooden deck that the previous owners installed for a hot tub that never arrived.IMG_3408

This was a 2-part project. Part one: Deck demolition. The top came off easily enough but this thing was joisted to survive Armageddon. Each of those 4×4 uprights are sunk into concrete and the lag bolts were very tight. So, we did what we could…

…then we pulled out the sawsall and cut the thing apart. Oh yeah, every board had approximately 200% more nails than was necessary. They were just bristling with sweet rusty spikes. Joy!IMG_3411

Prying open my third eye…

We left the rest of the posts for another day because daylight was burning and we wanted to get at least one of the boxes built before dark.

Next we selected our boards, removed the nails, and cut them to size.

So, now I have two garden beds measuring 9′ by about 3 1/2′. That’s a lot of space for vegetables and fruits, and they’re large enough to hide several bodies if I need to.

But seriously, I am very excited about this project. I’ve wanted to have a garden my whole life but logistically never could before now. I also set this as one of my 13 Skills goals. Completing these beds is 1/2 of one of my 13. Planting them will complete that task.

I think over the next few weeks you’re going to see a slightly different side of Scarydad because I have dozens of projects lined up that are not necessarily dark or Halloween related. I will still be posting the dark stuff too, though. Don’t worry.
